Clean lines. Clean surfaces. Clear thoughts.
I'd love to have one of those 1970's apartments with white walls and furniture, and nearly empty aside for the basic amenities. Ok, maybe that is a bit extreme but why do we always have so much clutter?
How can one be productive when their closets are full, there's old books that are never opened in a year, furniture that we really don't sit on, plants that are neglected and thrust upon you by friends in the past that have moved and you've adopted. Stereo's that suck but you never upgrade because all of your extra cash goes to entertainment and loans.
Shoes that you just can not part with because they give you a certain mood when you try them on, almost as if they have little voices that say "Remember the time you had these desert boots on in high school and you looked down at your feet seeing how nicely your brown Levi cords looked against the soft brown suede."
There's music, cassette after cassette of old ones like Bob Dylan and Neil Young that take you back. You think, god I love this recording I will need this someday. We are taking about cassettes here. What the? Everything I listen to is on cd's. I haven't been in the mood to listen to Neil Young since I gave up the idea of being a starving artist over 10 years ago.
I've been in a state of moving since my 19th birthday. I can not count the number of times I've moved. Sometimes cities sometimes just new apartments in the same town. Each time I re-arrange what I move with me and what goes into what I call "keepsake storage" at my parents house. I'm sure with every cycle they cringe at the amount of boxes I try to cram into my old room.
This time I've adopted a new plan of attack, (thanks to new friends Mary Beth and Jamie)...create a physical vacuum. Get rid of all the old crap that no longer serves me. They may be on to something big.
So now I know I'll be going nutty with this task. I really love order. The graphic designer in me is constantly trying to layout my space around me.
I will to have complete order with my physical belongings by August 15th.
Stay tuned for freebees.
